Subsidies Rules in WTO Options for Jordan- 7th Awareness Session

Jordan’s government announced in December 2021 that a new “manufacturing support fund” would be established. The online session discussed the World Trade Organization’s Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures (SCM).

Marius Bordalba Layo, a Senior Trade Policy Consultant, talked about the steps a government body must take to provide financial assistance as well as the various kinds of financial contributions.

AmCham-Jordan Legal Advisor and Head of the JUSFTA Unit, Lana Nimri, discussed the 2020 subsidy schemes based on the “Income Tax Incentives for the Manufacturing Sector Regulation No. (18) of 2020” and the “Manufacturing Activities Regulations No. (13) of 2020,” respectively.

With a focus on rules governing the types of “subsidies,” schemes offered by other countries, Jordan’s experience in this area, and possible future options for industry support schemes; “A new scheme to support manufacturing” and the pillars of a new subsidy program were discussed in the session.
