{Register} Reducing Export Risks: IP, Contracts & Payments

Description:

This seminar is the 7th event is a series of activities held throughout 2021 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the entry into force of the Jordan-U.S. Free Trade Agreement. The events are designed to introduce Jordanian companies, manufacturers, and exporters to new framework to support in identifying and capturing U.S. & regional export market opportunities.

In this seminar we will examine three of the top risks faced by exporters and importers when dealing with international buyers with specific focus on the U.S. food sector.  As Jordan’s food sector has been identified as a priority sector under the National Tijara Coalition’s work having high growth potentials.

The seminar will enhance traders’ awareness of what is needed to better manage three key risks related to payments and contracts as well as considerations related to intellectual property rights.

The seminar will open with a deep dive into the main risks faced by traders – that of payment or default. In this session, we hear from one of Jordan’s top banking institutions on methods of payment in international trade and how banks mitigate the risks in trade finance.

We will then hear from leading Jordanian Law firm on legal issues arising out of contractual obligation (rights and liabilities), looking at the standard terms and practices. Followed by looking at Intellectual Property Rights in general with focus on Trademarks.

A U.S. lawyer specialized in food law will then offer participants insights on specific consideration in the area of food products.

Each session will end with a Q&A – where participants can interact with the speakers on specific issues.
