Housing Bank for Trade and Finance “Housing Bank” was established in 1973 as the first bank specialized in providing housing finance to drive the urban population growth in Jordan. Throughout the last 24 years, the Bank has kept pace with the rapid developments in the regional and global banking sectors, which led to converting the Bank into a comprehensive commercial bank in 1997.

Qatar, National Bank, the Kuwait Real Estate Investment Consortium, the Libyan Foreign Bank, and the Social Security Corporation- Jordan are among the largest shareholders of the Bank, whose network of local and international branches has reached 180 branches in Jordan, Syria, Algeria, London, Palestine, and Bahrain, in addition to representative offices in Iraq, UAE, and Libya.

Housing Bank is considered one of the largest banks operating in Jordan, with a capital of 315 million Jordanian dinars, while its total assets amounted to 8.4 billion Jordanian dinars at the end of 2019. The Bank’s total customer deposits reached 5.8 billion dinars, its total credit facilities amounted to 4.6 billion dinars, and property rights reached 1.1 billion Jordanian dinars. In recognition of its contributions to support investment and economic development in Jordan and provide some of the best financial and banking services and solutions, Housing Bank has won the trust and recognition of several local, regional, and international institutions and organizations and won several awards and certificates of appreciation, such as the “Order of the Star of Jordan of the First Degree” on its 15th Anniversary, “King Abdullah II Award for Excellence,” which is the highest national award, the “Excellence Award for Qualitative Performance on the National Level”, the “Excellence Award” at the E-Jordan Conference, and the “Arab World’s Leading Bank in Financial Inclusion” and “Best Trademark in Jordan” by the World Union of Arab Bankers. Housing Bank also received the “Innovation and Excellence Award” from the Union of Arab Banks, while Banker Middle East magazine awarded the Bank the following awards: “Bank of the Year- Jordan”, “Most Innovative Bank in Jordan”, and “Best Provider of Innovative Financial Services”. The Bank also won the “Best Customer Service Bank in Jordan” by International Finance Magazine, and “Best Retail Bank in Jordan” by Global Banking and Finance Review. Housing Bank has introduced many cutting-edge banking initiatives since its establishment. It launched the first mobile branch in 1975 and was a leader in the banking sector in adopting savings account prizes in 1977. The Bank was the first in Jordan and the Arab World to introduce a children branch in 1993.
