AmCham-Jordan University Internship Program Virtual Session

Under the Patronage of Minister of Labor and Minister of State for Investment Affairs, H.E. Dr. Maen Al Qatamine, The American Chamber of Commerce in Jordan (AmCham-Jordan) organized the 2020-2021 University Student Internship Program Virtual Forum in collaboration with the University of Jordan and Yarmouk University with the support of the Public Affairs Section at the U.S. Embassy in Amman.

The forum celebrated program successes contributed by participating interns, universities, and companies with the aim of bridging the gap between academia and industry.  Companies engaged in Corporate Social Responsibility by providing internships, mentorship, and valuable professional experience to 59 undergraduate students. In addition, AmCham-Jordan announced the launch of the 2021 AmCham-Jordan University Internship program introducing a new job search tool, the AmCham-Jordan Internships & Jobs Matchmaking Portal. In encouraging enrollment in the 2021 program, AmCham-Jordan called for all participants to work towards building the capacity of Jordan’s private sector and youth workforce.

The opening session featured keynote speeches from H.E. Dr. Maen Al Qatamine, Prof. Abd Al-Karim Al-Qudah, President of University of Jordan and Prof. Nabil Hailat, President of Yarmouk University and Adrienne Nutzman, Counselor for Public Affairs, U.S. Embassy Amman. The speakers shed light on the benefits of this program and the importance of the private and public sector role in engaging in youth development activities.

The opening session was followed by two informative sessions. The first was titled “Future of Jobs in a Changing World,” and discussed the new norms of employment in Jordan, given local, regional, and international market dynamics and the importance of sustainable employment and engaging women and people with disabilities in economic participation. This session was moderated by Ms. Nour Jarrar, CEO of CitiBank Jordan and AmCham-Jordan Board member and welcomed panelists H.E. Dr. Bashar Al Zoubi, CEO of JEDCO, Ms. Ghadeer Khoffash, CEO of Jordan Education for Employment (EFE-Jordan) and, Mr. Rashad Bibars, Director of Jordan Youth, Technology, and Jobs (YTJ) Project at Ministry of Digital Economy & Entrepreneurship.

In the second session titled, “What are companies looking for in the Post Pandemic World,” HR specialists from leading companies provided advice to university students on what skills and qualifications are important for fresh graduates, particularly in a post-COVID 19 pandemic job market. The session was moderated by AmCham-Jordan CEO Ms. Rose Alissi and featured Ms. Evelyn Qubti-Afara, Human Resources and Admin Manager at Amideast –Jordan, Mr. Abdullah Al Jundi, HR Manager of Jordan Tractor & Equipment Company and, Mr. Mohammed Abdelrahman, Strategic HR Consultant as speakers.
