The Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Jordan, Eng. Mohammad S. Bataineh, announced the launching of the 2018 AmCham MENA Council Annual Conference & Exhibition this upcoming October under the theme of Commercialization of Innovation: A Driver for Growth in the MENA Region.
The conference will be launched on the 27th-28th of October 2018 under the patronage of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein Bin Abdullah II, and supported by the USAID Jordan Competitiveness Program. The American Chamber of Commerce in Jordan is currently holding the Chairmanship of the MENA AmChams Council from 2018-2020.
The announcement came during a press conference held on 26th of September 2018, and attended by the Minister of ICT, Eng. Mothanna Gharaibeh, members of the Board of Directors of AmCham in Jordan, and Amcham’s CEO Ms. Rose Alissi.
In his address, Bataineh said the organization of this conference will support innovation and entrepreneurship in Jordan and the region, which contributes to the development of today’s digital economy. “This is extremely important for the kingdom and the region as a whole,” he stressed
The conference, he added, would provide a chance to exchange expertise and develop strategies to build modern and sustainable economies. “Choosing this theme is part of AmCham-Jordan’s responsibility to promote innovations at the local and regional levels among top businessmen from different countries and the US”, he added.
“The conference will also give a chance for participating entrepreneurs, innovators and academics to present their projects before a plenary of incubators and an invested group of business men and women, a preliminary step to find financiers to adopt their innovations in different fields”, Bataineh said.
“Such a conference opens new horizons for all participating countries to exhibit their potential and various innovative talents in light of the constantly changing market,” he reiterated.
For his part, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Eng. Muthanna Al Gharaibeh, said that the patronage of His Royal Highness, Crown Prince Al Hussein, for this conference is evidence of the support that the leadership gives to creativity, innovation, talented people and ideas.
He added that Jordan is one of the most successful Arab countries in entrepreneurship and innovation. Jordanian companies have emerged as some of the top 100 emerging Arab companies. Some have been acquired by important international companies including Maktoob, Tamatem, Akhtaboot, Jamloon, Arab Weather, Kharabish, Madfoo3atkom Mawdoo3, and many more.
For her part, Alissi said the conference’s program consists of multiple sessions on different topics that focus on how innovation can enhance economic activity and accelerate growth. Regional and international case studies will also be presented.
“Participants coming from different countries will hear from international leaders and experts about the latest developments in energy, health care, ICT, education and financing, as well as the necessary measures to start up innovative businesses.” according to Alissi.
In parallel to the conference, an exhibition for innovations of local and regional companies will be held. The conference is a platform that brings together American Chambers of Commerce in MENA countries, namely Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Lebanon, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Kuwait and Iraq.
