Amman, August 13, 2018 – Under the patronage of the Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Dr. Tareq Al-Hammouri, the fourth meeting of the National Tijara Coalition to discuss the annual implementation plan of “National Tijara Coalition Strategy: A Plan for Growing Exports and Enhancing Investment between Jordan & the U.S” for the years 2018-2019. The meeting was attended by the 34 Tijara Coalition members, comprising of senior officials from the public and private sectors who are working together to achieve economic growth and enhance cooperation by bringing together Jordanian-US business relations.
In his speech, AmCham Chairman Eng. Mohammed Bataineh welcomed HE Dr. Tariq Al Hamouri Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, the presidents of the Chambers of Industry and Commerce, the sectoral and regional associations, and Russel Bauer, Director of the Office of Economic Development and Energy of the United States Agency for International Development in Jordan (USAID). Bataineh praised their efforts and experiences in contributing to the preparation of the implementation plan for the years 2018-2019 which includes outlined areas of work, activities and results within a specific period of time to bridge this plan and lead to positive results at the level of companies and sectors that will benefit the economy.
HE Dr. Tarek Al Hamouri, Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply expressed his support of the National Trade Coalition, rendering it a platform for dialogue and exchange of experties between members of the public and private sectors on ways to enhance the benefits and opportunities offered by the agreement to increase and diversify exports to the United States. H.E. Hammouri stressed the importance of working with the private sector to lead the dialogue and participate actively in the development of business plans for the strategy of the Tijara Coalition to be specific, clear, measurable and review that will contribute to the preparation of a clearly defined work plan that accurately outlines our common aspirations for the future of commercial relations between Jordan and the United States of America, for the benefit of the private sector and the national economy.
In his speech, HE Russell Bauer, Director of the Office of Economic Development and Energy, USAID, said: “Our meeting today is proof of the United States’ continuous commitment to Jordan’s development and economic growth. The US Agency for International Development (USAID) is proud of its support in facilitating trade relations between the two countries, which in turn reflect positively on our people and our economy.
HE Mr. Adnan Abu Ragheb, Chairman of the Jordan Chamber of Industry, stressed the importance of adopting all the chambers of commerce and industry to implement the proposed plan of the National Tijara Coalition, which aims to serve all companies to achieve the desired economic growth.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Jordan hosts the Jordanian-US Free Trade Agreement Unit (JAFTA). The Unit is the secretariat of the National Tijara Coalition to promote cooperation between the various institutions in order to enhance opportunities for benefiting from the distinguished economic relations between Jordan and the United States. This unit is supported by USAID.
