AmCham-Jordan in partnership with the Tent Foundation and Connect.JO, and with support from the USAID Jordan Competitiveness Program (JCP) hosted the 2018 Jordan US Investment Forums: Paving the Way for New Business Opportunities that Create Lasting Growth for U.S. Companies and Jordan, in New York City on 25 June and in San Francisco on 28 June 2018.
The Forums aimed at promoting two way trade and investment with a focus on identifying investments into Jordan that will have a positive impact on companies’ growth as well as contribute in providing opportunities for the host and refugee communities in the Kingdom.
The Forums brought together representatives from the business communities in Jordan and the U.S. as well as international donors and civil society to highlight the challenges of continued regional unrest on Jordan and its effect on the economic prospects of individuals, which can be offset by taking advantage of Jordan’s unique value proposition as a regional gateway and services hub.
Dr SehwailChairman of the Jordan Industrial Estate Company and representing the Government of Jordan, commented on the value of US-Jordan economic relations spanning more than 8 decades, a corner stone of which was the Free Trade Agreement signed in 2000 that contributed to the growth of business ties.
Eng. Mohammed Bataineh, Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Jordan, expressed appreciation to the continued support of the US Government and people to Jordan’s socioeconomic development. Bataineh reiterated AmCham-Jordan’s commitment to building bridges between the private sector both in Jordan and the US in an effort to create partnerships that will initiate regional market access, adding that the business community has a significate role to play in contributing to ensuring that the benefits of economic growth are both sustainable and inclusive.
The Forums provided insight into opportunities made possible through impact or blended investments and highlighted Jordan’s strong business and investment climate. They were successful in cementing linkages with US businesses interested in working in Jordan with the aim of contributing to bettering the livelihoods of host and refugee communities in the Kingdom, and resulted in the signing of two agreements with Connect.JO and TechWadi aimed at enhancing partnerships in the IT sector.
The Jordan US investment Forum is an annual activity organized by AmCham-Jordan in the US and represents a long standing platform for engaging with US partners.
This year’s Forums were followed with a visit to Salt Lake City, Utah on 29 June 2018, which comes as a follow up to the 2017 Utah Business Delegation visit to Amman. AmCham-Jordan CEO – Rose Alissi and senior staff met with the Governor of Utah H.E. Gary Herbert followed by a workshop hosted by the World Trade Center of Utah, where a program of joint work was identified to bolster business ties specifically in the energy, tourism, education and IT sectors. During the visit AmCham-Jordan also signed a MOU with the US-Arab Businesswomen’s Trade Association to specifically focus on encouraging women owned businesses.
